Elsberry Residence

My aunt Gail once had a very large printing from Africa that told its history. One could look at that painting for hours discovering new details every minute. It kept you mind very busy.

Our kitchen is now one big piece of functional ART! People can't help but discover the uniqueness of each tile and see something different each time their eye passes over the piece. We have enjoyed explaining the design-Memaw's doile. She must have spent hours in an easy chair with that crochet needle.

When I discovered we could combine Memaw's artwork into the design of our kitchen, I knew there would be no other choice that would make us happy or satisfied. Thanks to Thor creating wonderful, functional, handmade tile, we have a work of art in our kitchen that pays tribute to our beloved Memaw, Fay Weber.

The bar counter top has a very nice detail  section on the left end shown here.
We pressed the doilies into the clay and cut the pattern into 4 inch tiles to match the counter tops
The same doilies design was used behind the stove but was cut into 6 inch tiles and turned on diamond. This gives unity but not repetition which is typical of commercially made tiles

The row of tiles in the hidden cove under the bar was a lot of fun to install, my back still hurts

The Elsberry's upgraded their kitchen and got a true One of A kind look at a fraction of the costs by reworking existing cabinets and allowing the handmade tile be the focal point of the kitchen.  Upgrade appliances were already needed and fit nicely into the overall look.
