Incuba Incubate-To maintain conditions favorable for development. The Sparta Incuba is an effort by Cherri and Thor McNeil of the Fragrant Mushroom Pottery Studio & Gallery to extend a helping hand to those artists that are starting out in their new career. By offering studio space at an affordable price, practical business advise and a creative atmosphere it is our hopes that a select few artists can have success. The long term hope is that they will see the benefit of keeping costs low and permanently relocate to Sparta in the Downtown area to open their studio and shop. This will allow Sparta to grow into one of those Unique little tourist towns that everyone visits. So let it be said that our purpose is to expand the economy in Sparta by attracting a base of artists that will in turn attract a mass of tourist. All of which will improve the economy by providing tourist based jobs and increase the local tax revenue. The building at 15 Rhea Street known locally as the "hole in the floor" was once the Factory Outlet Store and it was a prime shopping place with every thing from clothing to horse tact. It was also Wintons World Furniture store and later became the annex gym to the YMCA during their remodel. It was a Karate Studio prior to our purchase in 2000. It boasts two floors of 2,873 square foot each. The lower level is Thor's Architectural Ceramics and productions studio. It also houses our candle production. By the Fall of 2006 Thor plans on having two 10 X 15 studio's ready for occupancy in the downstairs pottery studio. These are best suited for semi production potters and art potters. They will be available to all mediums until the upstairs is finished. It is our goal to have the upstairs open for studio rental by May of 2007. Potential candidates for Incubation need to fill out a application for consideration (available fall of 2006, email me). I reserve the right to reject anyone for any reason, but consider everyone eligible until disqualified. I would like to have a mix of mediums represented as your residency is part of the draw for new customers. The Fragrant Mushroom will move its inventory and office into the top floor of the Building at 15 Rhea Street in the summer of 2007 possibly as late as August. Their will be an official grand opening and reception in September of 2007. This move will bring 8 years of customer base in to see what you are doing while in incubation. It will also allow for potential classes and commissions. |
